Finding clarity, safety, and connection at Bee You Counselling Co.
Starting therapy - especially when navigating trauma or neurodivergence - can come with a lot of questions. Whether you're curious about somatic counselling, or curious about other avenues of mental health, or exploring how ADHD and trauma might be impacting your life, you're in the right place.
At Bee You Counselling Co., my goal is to create a space where you feel seen, supported, and safe to be exactly who you are. Below, you'll find answers to some of the most common questions clients ask. If you're wondering about something that isn’t covered here, please don’t hesitate to reach out - I’m always happy to connect.
1. What is somatic counselling?
Somatic counselling is a holistic approach that views the body as an essential part of the healing process. It gently integrates the wisdom of your nervous system, body sensations, and emotional awareness to support healing from trauma, stress, and dysregulation. At Bee You Counselling Co., I guide you in developing a deeper connection with your body through safe, grounded practices that support resilience and inner calm.
2. How is your practice trauma-informed?
Being trauma-informed means that safety, empowerment, and choice are at the heart of every session. I respect your pace and honour your lived experience. You will never be pushed to share or relive anything you're not ready for. My role is to create a space where your nervous system can feel safe enough to heal, with trust, compassion, and gentle co-regulation guiding the process.
3. How do you support clients with ADHD?
ADHD can be deeply misunderstood, especially in the context of trauma. I work from a neurodivergent-affirming lens that sees ADHD as a unique way of experiencing the world—not something to be “fixed.” Our work focuses on supporting your nervous system, developing self-understanding, and exploring strategies that align with how you naturally function. Together, we build awareness, reduce overwhelm, and cultivate self-trust.
4. What is Polyvagal Theory, and why is it important?
Polyvagal Theory helps us understand how our nervous system responds to safety and threat. It explains why we might feel stuck in fight, flight, or freeze—and how we can gently support our system in moving back toward regulation and connection. I use this framework to help you notice and respond to your body's cues with kindness, creating a more secure and grounded relationship with yourself.
5. Do I need a formal ADHD or trauma diagnosis to work with you?
Not at all. Many of the people I work with are simply noticing that something feels off, overwhelming, or too much—and that’s enough. Whether you’ve been diagnosed or are just starting to explore your experience, you are welcome here. Your story matters, even if it doesn’t fit into a neat box.
6. What happens in a first session?
In our first session, we’ll take time to get to know each other. I’ll ask about what brings you here, what you're hoping for, and what helps you feel safe. You don’t need to share everything right away - we move at your pace. I may introduce a few gentle somatic practices to help you stay grounded as we begin our work together.
7. Will sessions include movement or touch?
No physical touch is used in my practice, and movement is always simple and optional. Somatic work might include practices like breathing, grounding, or tuning into body sensations. Everything is done with your full consent, and you are always in control of what we explore.
8. How long are sessions and how often do we meet / where ?
Sessions are 50 minutes and can take place weekly or bi-weekly even monthly, depending on your needs. We’ll collaborate to find a rhythm that feels sustainable and supportive for you. I have three visiting options virtual, over the phone, or meeting in person along the Vedder river for an eco-session. Virtual meets are made super easy, I send you a link to the jane app. and you follow the link into our secure meeting room. This can be done in the comfort of your home, or your car or where ever you have a private space. Phone options are available also for your convenience. Our eco-sessions are done along the Vedder river, allowing for a grounding experience in nature. It also allows for a more informal space for those who work better that way.
9. Is Bee You Counselling Co. neurodivergent-affirming?
Yes—wholeheartedly. I celebrate neurodiversity and work to create a space where your whole self is seen and supported. Whether you’re ADHD, autistic, or exploring your neurodivergence, you are not too much. You are enough and you are welcome here.
